At Les Varendes High School, every student has the right to feel safe, respected and valued. Bullying of any kind is unacceptable in our community, whether it takes place in school, online or outside of school hours. We are committed to creating an environment where kindness, respect and responsibility guide the way we treat one another.

If your child experiences bullying in any form, please inform their Year Team Lead – contact details can be found here. All reports will be taken seriously and acted upon swiftly and fairly.

We also work closely with families to resolve issues, ensuring that every student feels supported and protected.

Preventing and tackling bullying is a shared responsibility. By working together - students, staff and families - we can ensure that our school remains a safe, respectful and supportive place for all.

Our Approach

We take a proactive, whole-school approach to preventing and tackling bullying by:

  • Promoting respect and inclusion through our school values, curriculum and assemblies.

  • Raising awareness of bullying and cyberbullying, including the impact they can have on mental health and wellbeing.

  • Encouraging student voice, so that pupils feel confident to speak up and support one another.

  • Providing staff training so that concerns are recognised early and dealt with consistently.

Cyberbullying

We recognise that bullying can also take place online, through social media, messaging, or gaming. Our guidance for students includes:

  • Using technology responsibly and treating others with respect.

  • Protecting personal information and privacy online.

  • Reporting inappropriate behaviour immediately to a trusted adult.

Parents and carers are encouraged to:

  • Talk openly with their child about online behaviour and risks.

  • Monitor use of devices, apps, and games with age-appropriate controls.

  • Support their child in using privacy settings and blocking/reporting harmful content.

Working Together

The STOP acronym for bullying stands for "Several Times on Purpose" and is used by schools to define bullying as an act of unkindness that is repeated and intentional. STOP helps us to define bullying, but it also encourages students to “Start Telling Other People” if they see or experience bullying.
